Provide DNS Services for my domains and sub-domains
DNS is crucial - if it's down, my Azure web roles are down. I don't trust GoDaddy and Verisign with my production DNS, so I either need to have on-premise load balanced DNS servers or pay someone to do it. It would be great if Windows Azure took care of this for me.

Offer me a Windows Azure dedicated cloud, either hosted on my premises or with third-party provider.
306 votesEarlier this year, we announced the Windows Azure Platform Appliance, which will allow customers to run the Windows Azure environment in their own data centers or via a third-party hosting provider. Look for more announcements about the Platform Appliance in 2011.

Provide Azure based GPU Processing
Is there a way that CAD processing intensive applications can use worker roles that can access GPUs in the same way as CPUs.
That would mean to extend the Azure HW-Spec in some way to provide Multi-GPU-Cores in additon to Multi-CPU-Cores.45 votes -

Allow simple Managed Tasks to run distributed within the Cloud and pay for CPU time used (ie NO VMs)
I would like the ability to have Managed Only Compute Tasks that can be deployed within the cloud that periodically wake up and can process data from the Storage Queues and go back to sleep. These task would NOT be confined to specific VMs but could be share a single VM with other tasks. I pay only for the computation time the task actually uses. And the tasks can be quickly spun up and down not having to wait for VM's to spin up.
I've thought of building this system on top of the current infrastructure but want to see…

Azure Text Messaging Alerting System
Create an Azure alerting framework using SMS, Text Messaging, Email, IM, SIP, that allows 2 way (bi-directional) alerts & responses.
Could be used by either adminstrators (status and remote control) or application<>users (application notification broadcasting). For an admin example, alerting on roles shutting down, crashing, spinning up, etc. For end user example, enabling notification account status changes or account provisioning. Could also be used for building SMS enabled azure applications

Design a restricted runtime model so small short-lived services can be deployed with less latency.
I would like to be able to rely on Azure to run very short but highly parallel jobs that might, say, consume 1000 CPUs for 30 seconds each. Startup costs make this prohibitive.
Consider how useful this would be for the problem of doing a custom semantic web search, or searching through a large configuration space of some simply defined problem for the configuration which yields the highest utility.

offer online payments as a service offering (credit-card processing as a service)
As an Azure customer, I want to state that there is a customer felt demand for online payment processing i.e. ecommerce. It would be nice if Azure also played the "payment processing infrastructure-as-a-service" game. Not just the simple case of "process one transaction" but also consider features like recurring subscriptions, discount coupons, prorated cancellations, trials, gift cards etc. Basically an entire billing / payment system that right now each business needs to write from scratch on their own (i.e. it's an infrastructure). Also, while Stripe (www.stripe.com) does a good job, I believe Microsoft can do a better job,…
